Itinerary: Hoonah Mixer

Arrive at the airport for our chartered aircraft over to Hoonah.  We will spend the day exploring diverse habitats and photograph one of the largest land carnivores, the Coastal brown bear, roaming Southeast and particularly the island of Chichagof. Throughout the season bears are seen foraging in verdant sedge meadows, bears fish for salmon and dig enthusiastically for clams on the vast tidal flat, and photogenic young cubs interact at length as they “fish” along the river.   We will stay overnight at Icy Strait Lodge.

The following day we join our Coast Guard certified Captain for a six-hour whale watching and marine wildlife safari.  We will return to Hoonah and have an opportunity to explore the community of Hoonah, the Eagles nest and several totem poles in the town before boarding our floatplane back to Juneau.   Water bottles and snacks available on the boat.
